Astrid Arriaza holds a PhD in Demography and Statistics for Social Sciences from the University of Southampton in England, a degree obtained thanks to scholarships awarded by the UK government, including the prestigious Chevening scholarship, and the support of the Economic and Social Research Council of the UK Research and Innovation department.
Astrid stands out for her ability to connect the academic field with formulation of public policies, focusing on critical issues such as social development and population health. Her professional career has led her to collaborate on high-impact research projects in public health, demographics and social development indicators, with a special focus on Guatemala.
Her research has been presented at international academic conferences, such as the International Population Conference, organized by the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population.
In the professional field, Astrid has played key roles in monitoring and evaluation of health policies at the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance of Guatemala, in addition to having served as a university professor. Her experience in the transnational pharmaceutical industry covers crucial areas such as the regulation of medicine and medical devices, as well as quality control.
Astrid is a Pharmaceutical Chemist from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG), holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and Management from Universidad Rafael Landívar (URL), and a Master’s degree in Demography, in addition to her PhD in Statistics for Social Sciences and Demography, both from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
